The trusted home for safaris across East Africa
amagaratours.com is coming soon!
Since 2002, Amagara Tours & Travel (formerly also Trekkers Tours), has been the leading locally-based tour operator in the heart of Western Uganda, and serves as the tour operations wing of the Byoona Amagara project, supporting our varied and valuable programs throughout the Lake Bunyonyi community.

With over a dozen years of touring experience, we provide expert access to all the local natural wonders of the region and arrange active custom safaris throughout Uganda and Rwanda, at prices that we guarantee are the lowest around.

Our focus is on the splendor of Western Uganda's astonishing National Parks: Bwindi, Queen Elizabeth, Murchison Falls, Kibale, Rwenzori Mountains and Lake Mburo, as well as on local visits to learn about and support community initiatives within the greater Southwest, including Lake Bunyonyi & the Kigezi Highlands, Kisoro/MgaHinga, and the Bwindi highlands.

Naturally, Gorilla Tracking is our specialty (in Bwindi NP and now also Virunga NP in DRC!), and is at the root of our long experience in bringing visitors to the area. We offer the absolute lowest-cost gorilla tracking tours available - anywhere(!), while maintaining the highest standards of service.

We also are now operating full tours into the newly re-opened Virunga National Park in DRC! An incredible opportunity for visitors to our region to witness one of the planet's truly unique - and immensely important natural wonders. A trip up to the peaks and caldera of the Nyiragongo volcano is equally the 'once in a lifetime' experience that spending time with the Mountain Gorillas is. A trip to Virunga NP can also include a visit to the town of Goma on the shores of Lake Kivu.

We arrange tours in all cost classes, specializing in the budget & mid-range. Our clients travel across the entirety of Uganda, from all the locations mentioned above, to far beyond... Kidepo Valley NP, Sipi Falls/Mt. Elgon, Jinja & Nile River adventure activities, Kampala city, Entebbe & Mabamba Swamp, Lake Victoria/Ssese Islands, etc.

We also fully serve Rwanda, making regular airport pick-ups at Kigali, and providing excursions out to Lake Kivu and its towns and villages, as well as the entire Virunga mountain region, and beyond.

Amagara Tours clients take the road in vehicles that are comfortable, sturdy and reliable, with back-up vehicles and road services at the ready. Our kind, fun-loving and highly experienced guides and drivers are Africans who know Uganda and Rwanda like the back of their hands. Their respectful and competent handling, safe driving, and highly-experienced safari skills, will allow you to relax and enjoy your journey without a worry.

We cater to groups and independent travelers who wish to experience everything that the region has to offer... from tracking mountain gorillas, chimpanzees and tree-climbing lions in their native and wild habitats, to scaling an array of mountains and volcanoes; from all the amazing birding opportunities (we are based at Lake Bunyonyi -the lake of little birds, after all!), to game viewing on the vast savannas and wide rivers, to forest treks and village walks, and beyond.

Traveling with us you will engage traditional Ugandan culture as well as have the chance to just relaxing, and always in locations of comfort, stunning scenery and delicious food. We arrange any and all of your travel wishes for prices that can fit a true budget-traveler's demands, without sacrificing quality - or any of the celebrated splendor of an African safari!

We accept all itinerary proposals, or can give experienced advice in developing a tour that fits every aspect of your needs. Just let us know what you want and we'll return a travel and activity plan at a price that cannot be beat by any other operator.

Amagara Tours exists to support the community programs and sustainable development initiatives of the Byoona Amagara Project at Lake Bunyonyi.

Come live an African dream with us!
